Have you ever loaded your washer with whites, only to come back and pull out a load of pink clothing? Later you find a red shirt that slipped in there. With Smart Washer, that situation will never happen to you because this German washer can “read” information about your fabric using radio frequency. When the machine reads the fabric, it determines the color, the correct wash cycle and time length, the amount of water needed and at what temperature. Smart Washer is also energy efficient as it has very standby power. To top it all off, you can use a smartphone to check the maintenance and automatically update the firmware. When the appliances we love were created, their sole purpose was to reduce our workload and save time. Now appliances reduce our mental workload as well. What is there to complain about now?

In the market to buy a new dishwasher? We recommend you check out Bosch’s new TimeLight fully integrated dishwasher. If you’re on a time restricted schedule, this is the washer you’ll want to buy. The advanced, clean looking design hides a control panel on the top of the door instead of on the front like most washers. And since your schedule is time restricted, the Bosch washer shows a countdown of the cycle time but unlike most washers it projects the timer onto the kitchen floor. The timer will also let you know what cycle it’s on. Don’t worry about not being able to see the light because Bosch has that element covered. Advanced technology has allowed for the white light to be visible on any kind of flooring – even white floors. It’s fast, clean, easy, and advanced. What is there not to love about this washer? Don’t worry about it breaking down either, Allen & Sons has you covered if any of your appliances aren’t working properly.

A national survey conducted by Canstar Blue has found that Generation Y-ers would rather send their dirty delicates to the dry cleaners than take the time to hand wash their items. Lets clarify that Generation Y-ers were born between 1977 and 1994. Apparently 44% of respondents happily invest in dry cleaning because the idea of getting down and dirty, hand scrubbing their delicates is just too grueling a task, even though they earn lower wages than the preceding Generation X (baby boomers). Interestingly enough, 24% of males that responded would rather dry clean, whereas only 16% of women would prefer to dry clean. On the positive side, the overall results showed that more that 50% people surveyed would rather hand wash before taking their clothes to the dry cleaners, so we can breathe a sigh of relief. Also, almost half of the respondents said they had invested in high end, energy efficient washers.

We’re glad to see that overall, people are choosing a more energy efficient way to wash, whether it be by hand washing or by washing with an energy and water efficient machine. If your machine should let you down or give out on you, call us at Allen & Sons Appliance Repair so we can come take a look. A washer that is said to be energy efficient should always remain that way.

Whirlpool Duet 9750 Steam Gas – User Interface Problem.

Finally, technology has come to the point where customers not only call us with the appliance problems but also send us the videos of their broken machines. This one is of the Whirlpool Duet 9750′s with a model number – WFW9750WW and it has a malfunctioning User Interface.

Overall, Whirlpool and the Duet family are wonderful machines and we highly recommend them; the only purpose for us to share this video is to show some of the problems that we encounter on a daily basis. As a long time partner with Whirlpool, Allen & Sons Appliance Repair was able to order the part and complete the repair on the same day.
So, if you have a broken appliance and you live in Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County areas, you can go ahead and schedule an appointment online at http://www.myapplianceservice.com/Appointment/, or you can simply call us at 1 (800) 828-0887. And in case you like the video message idea, we welcome such initiative, as well.

Imagine being able to control the air conditioning or washing machine from the comfort of your own desk. No you can with an all new technology called Twine. We won’t get into all the technicalities because that can get a little confusing. Basically, the way Twine works is with sensors. Place it on top of you washer or dryer and when the cylce is done, Twine can shoot you a text to let you know. This is appliance use made easy. Check out the video to see the wild wired world that is soon to be connecting you with your home at all times.

You leave some food in the fridge, forget it’s there, and two weeks later there’s a horrible smell coming from the inside or you find it while poking around for something to eat – a situation that has happened to the best of us. We clean out the container, or throw it away, and move on with the rest of the day. However a certain office in San Jose, Ca experienced the worst end of this situation.

In 2009, a few employees at an office building decided it was high time to clean out the office fridge that had been turned off for quite some time. Without a doubt, the things they found inside that fridge were rotten and vile, which was no problem. All they needed to do was throw everything away. However, the employees decided that the smell was so awful, they would spray the fridge with a chemical cleaner. The combination of mold and the chemical cleaner created such a horrible smell, the office building had to evacuate all 325 employees, 28 of which were already throwing up, and 7 of which were hospitalized. A Hazmat team was called (Hazmat usually works with chemical spills, disease outbreak, and radioactivity fallouts) to dispose of the stinky fridge.

If you have rotting food, don’t let it get to the point that this office building let it get to, and definitely never spray mold with chemical cleaners. If you’re in need of simple repair, give us a call and we’ll be right over to fix it. Just as long as there isn’t any rotten food in your fridge.

Whenever someone purchases a barbecue, they usually end up buying a barbecue kit as well. Most kits will include a spatula, tongs, grill brushes, etc. However, as you begin grilling, you may realize your necessity for a barbecue flashlight. If you like to barbecue after the sun goes down, this is definitely something you’ll want to purchase. We’ve seen a lot of grills and barbecues and we can confidently say that the most common BBQ flashlight we’ve seen is the Man Law Twist Flashlight. Customers say they love their flashlight because it stands on a magnetic tripod that sticks to your grill and it can function without batteries – which means it’s ready to go whenever you need it. The tripod has swiveling legs for full angle illumination. This little flashlight is sure to last you a long, long time. It is said to be able to charge more than 100,000 times, at 5 minutes per charge. If we’ve seen these little lights in most grills, they must be worth it. Check it out for yourself @manlawbbq.com

Of course, be sure you have a functioning barbecue grill first, and if you don’t, call Allen & Sons for a quick repair.

If you’re thinking about moving anytime soon, or you know someone that is, paying someone to move around furniture and appliances can get expensive. You may want to consider moving things yourself. We’ll start with how to go about moving the refrigerator.

1. Preparation

Empty the fridge, pack up everything that won’t go bad if it sits out of the fridge for 2 days. Everything else should be eaten or disposed of.

Unplug and defrost the fridge overnight

Remove all shelves, wrap and protect them during the move. Tape drawers shut

Turn off power and wrap power cord, so as to keep it from getting damaged.

Secure the doors by tying a cord around the fridge, if you have double doors, tie them together tightly.

2. Time to Move

Slide the fridge away from the wall, push the dolly underneath it and postion the fridge on top. Secure the fridge using moving straps.

With one person in front, and one in back, tip the fridge slightly backwards and have someone direct you where to go.

Going down stairs? Move the fridge down the stairs bottom first. Go slow, step by step.

3. Almost Done

Once the fridge is positioned into its new spot, let it sit for 3 hours, allowing fluids to flow back into the compressor.

Plug everything in and give your fridge time. It may take up to 3 days to reach optimum temperature.

Important - Never lay your fridge on its side. Doing this will cause oil to seep into the cooling tubes which will cause permanent damage. Don’t hesitate to call a professional if you need help.

Moving is a tremendous amount of work, but if you do it all yourself, you can save a lot of money. However you need to be careful and take the time to set up everything you will need and take the time to move everything correctly. Many people have been successful. If for whatever reason your fridge isn’t working well after you’ve moved, give us a call at Allen & Sons Appliance Repair and we’ll check it out. Your fridge will be running in no time.
